Don’t get me wrong. I loved the movie MOANA so much I saw it twice in theaters, and I will own the Blu-ray version as soon as I can get my hands on it. That said, Honest Trailers is not wrong, as usual.
Stay all the way to the end. As with other movies, there’s a pay-off that’s spit-take worthy. Trust me on this. Swallow first.
This is the one and only repeat video, because I just couldn’t resist. Now with new and improved second link!
Viral video responses to real world events. They’re a thing. And particularly appropriate, given last night’s Alberta Clipper in the DC region. Schools delayed or closed over the equivalent of two inches of snow, because we were too busy preparing for #SnOMG!, the 2016 edition.
Honestly, you’d think people would remember that this is what happens when El Niño is active, but no. Not so much.
So here’s today’s installment, viewed over 14 million times. Accept no substitutions.
Bread and Milk
But wait! There’s more!
Bread and Milk – Part 2
Now go forth and conquer the grocery store. Hurry. Before it’s too late!
It’s Feel Good Friday, and just like that, I’m back.
Really, though, this is an attempt at feeling better, knowing that there’s a whole lot of awful stuff going around today, especially in my personal Facebook feed.
It’s hard to think of a reason to smile, which is why these posts exist. Thanks for sticking around – classes are just about over for me and I’ll probably include a couple of my own pieces in the coming weeks, when I think about it.
Ephemeral as it is, YouTube has a wealth of information. This video’s making the rounds, but there’s only one original and it belongs to Margaret Hutto. (Hint: It’s the link below.) Accept no substitutions.
Yeah, I know. You’re probably sick of the song now. I’ll try to make this the last time (for now). But I couldn’t contain myself when Adele Dazeem…ahem…Idina Menzel herself sang on Sunday night’s Academy Awards show. (Made me wonder whether it was just a simple mistake, an amazing parody of herself, or a brilliant marketing move for the producers of If/Then.)
But I digress…
I mentioned earlier that there are in excess of 213k in parody or tribute links to the song Let It Go on YouTube. I’ll give it a rest after this, but you need to see these, just because.
First, the current Broadway cast of Avenue Q congratulate their co-creator, Robert Lopez, who co-wrote the song with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez:
Then, there’s Alex Boyé stellar Africanized Tribal cover of the song, with the ) Ft. One Voice Children’s Choir. Holy cow, can that kid sing!
Finally? What you’re all probably thinking. And if you haven’t swallowed yet, do yourself a favor: Put the coffee down.
Yes, yes. Winter Olympics. I know. And I’m pretty sure I could have found something for the winter version, but this hit my feed a month ago and I don’t want to wait any longer.
Remember, with things posted on Friday in particular, if you don’t swallow, you can’t blame me for failing to warn you.
Clowns come in all forms. They’re highly skilled artists. Don’t try this at home. Unless, you know, you’re a clown. And you know what you’re doing.
This is the reason why I skipped Ben Stiller’s 2013 remake of the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” which was in turn based on a James Thurber short story. I just couldn’t bring myself to see the king of deadpan take the classic I adore and bend it to his will.
Danny Kaye didn’t read music. That never ever mattered. I don’t think there are many (any?) actors alive today who could actually do what he did in his movies.
No, the movie didn’t have that much to do with the original short story. And that’s okay. The new one didn’t, either. And that’s another story.
Time for another dose of Lizzie Mae’s humor and horror. The names have been changed to protect the guilty because people really are that ignorant.
The sad truth is that these things aren’t old. They’re current. And this is why we need to remember, not just in February, but every day, that people do think this way.
Did you know Dungeons & Dragons turned 40 this year? Do you know how I know it? Because back when the world was new, before the dark ships came, I played AD&D. (That’s Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, for the uninitiated.)
That’s not how I heard about The Gazebo, though. I heard the story when I started playing an RPG (that’s Role Play Game) several years ago. The Dread Gazebo came up in conversation and folks retold the story as if sharing a modern Mystery Play.
But until a friend posted a link to this audio (yes, sometimes YouTube is audio-only, but it’s SOOOO worth the listen), I had no idea anyone had dramatized the story. So now I’m sharing. And this is your spit-take warning because it’s possibly the silliest story you’ll hear all day, if not all week.
So why did I know about this? Because Geek and Gamer Girls are EVERYWHERE!
And we’re back with Lizzie Mae, once again, as she tackles the question of Abolition from her own unique perspective.
We’re entering Black History Month in short order. I figure some reminding is in order, while we remember why slavery’s end and equal rights are important.
Remember: The questions are real (and shameful). The names have been changed to protect the guilty.
If you’re paying attention to the news, you know the northeast is in a cold snap the likes of which we haven’t seen in 20 years. Don’t go all “Global Warming, huh?” on me, because I’ll quote you all sorts of reasons why climate change is real. And that’s not the point of this post.
No, you’re getting Let It Go for Feel Good Friday this week, because it’s stuck firmly in my head, thanks to the supreme talents of Idina Menzel and song writing team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Tony Award®-winner Robert Lopez.
Seriously. 52 million views since Disney published the clip on December 6, 2013!
But why three? Well, I could have chosen more – folks are posting their own renditions of the song, mash-ups with Wicked (Defying Gravity chief among them), and more. It appears this one struck a chord in ways I haven’t seen since Beauty and the Beast hit the screens in 1991.
So, here’s the original:
And then the same clip, in 25 languages (perfectly timed):
And finally, in the best Disney parody I’ve heard in a while, [NOT safe for work or younger kids but oh, so funny], a tip of the hat to all of us who wish with all our hearts we *could* hit those high notes the way Ms. Menzel does:
Welcome to Science (and Math) Saturday, and Good Mythical Morning, Episode 260.
The best of the wacky in the Internet, summarized. How many of these have you shared on Facebook?
The “interesting” nature of their webisodes aside, Good Mythical Morning has posted nearly 600 videos, and I can’t fault them. I’m just gathering random stuff from all over. They’re sitting in front of a camera and producing their shows. Deserves a highlight, I’m thinking.
Welcome to Throwback Thursday. It might not be what you expect, but then, where would we be in this world if everything was the way everyone expected?
I ran across this little clip while looking for a reference for a short story. I confess, until I looked her up, I had no idea who Beatrice “Bea” Lillie was, but I thought of Fanny Brice (a sort-of contemporary of Bea’s). Ed Sullivan’s intro is so very typical of his shows, which were among my favorite things to watch.
Yes, I know. A few weeks late and this is Kwanzaa, not Hanukkah. But…somehow I managed to leave this one out of the routine for Hanukkah and…and…well, Tom Lehrer.
Launching into the countdown to Epiphany with this classic take on the reality of an actual 12 days of Christmas (in gifts).
Watch and listen at your own risk. And be sure to swallow the eggnog first.
Been a long day, and I’m posting early so I can finally get an actual 8 hours of sleep. Hope you have/had a fabulous Winter Holiday of Your Choice. Enjoy your Boxing Day.
Saw these guys live last year, thanks to a gift from a friend.
Of all the songs they do, this one, right here, is my absolute favorite. Seriously. As hard as it is to remember the lyrics, this flawed rendition is completely flawless. Timing? Impeccable. Glad they’re still together and making the rounds.
At almost 17 million hits, this undeniably viral video is totally hilarious.
I would be remiss if I failed to include Tom Lehrer’s classic A Christmas Carol in this lead-up to the event. Lehrer’s understated humor is timeless. Sad that he quit the biz so early, but we’re lucky he left us the albums he did.
Not sure it could even BE the season without this happy little tune.
Got one more Tom Lehrer before I leave off this year’s list, but it’s the last during Advent.
Now on the other hand, the second (not at all subtle or particularly happy, but definitely worth watching) video comes from the Dropkick Murphys and I actually debated including it because it’s a fairly angry picture of modern family life.
Then again, the holidays aren’t always happy, which I believe that’s the point of the song. You’ll relate to this clip especially if your family (like mine) isn’t straight out of the J.C. Penny Catalog. (Do they even print those anymore?!?)
Also? Not quite 200k versus over 2 million hits. Yeah, that’s telling.
