November 1: Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) Morning Has Broken

I suppose if I was attempting to recreate Fantasia, this would be the time to insert a version of Ave Maria for All Saints Day, but that’s not my purpose here. Aiming for spiritual, but a lot more contemporary, thanks.

This is one of my absolute favorite pieces of music, ever. I have my friend Chris to thank for giving me a firm and steady appreciation of Cat Stevens’ music, and his conversion to Islam has not diminished my feelings on the subject.

It’s November, two months to the end of the year and the start of NaNoWriMo. It’s also six days to my birthday, a large round number I couldn’t begin to imagine when I was younger and even now so very arbitrary. There’s a lot of water under that particular bridge.

Spending the week considering nifty science stuff for non-science majors, even as I contemplate taking my first ever lab science class in the spring. Also spending some time considering my friends who made it near or just past this milestone but didn’t survive. Imagine all the cool things they could have experienced.

Sit back and relax. The jog between here and Thanksgiving is shorter than you think. And objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear.
