October 11: Shakespeare’s Who’s On First

When I first launched this Blog, I was finding stuff more or less on my own. In the last several months, folks have started sending me material they were sure I’d like. I love that, because it means folks are paying attention and because I don’t get to see everything that’s out there.

The clip below is one such submission. After highlighting Abbott and Costello way back in July, I got a message saying I just had to see this. So, by sharing, I get to pass the love on to you.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Shakespeare Week is almost over…

July 8: Abbott & Costello ~ Who’s On First?

And so we leave HISHE for pure comedy gold. That’s the whole theme. And we start here, with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in their legendary routine. I suspect I could safely say the one routine everybody knows, whether they know who delivered it to begin with or not.

Back in the dark ages, when audio cassettes were still a thing (but after 8-tracks), I got a four-cassette set of old time radio shows. Abbott and Costello were among the four, and this routine was part of the show on the tape. I wore that sucker out, listening over and over to this. I can still recite most of it from memory.

Now, here’s the thing. This should still be available in a year, but who knows. The version I originally selected was pulled for a copyright violation. So if it disappears, you’ll know why.

It should go without saying that you should not be eating or drinking while watching these things.

Comedy Week starts now.
